Food and Wine Setup

Planning the Food and Wine Setup is Easy

Now that the guest list has been chosen you are ready for the food and wine setup portion of your party. By now you have worked up your budget and are ready to make your menu selections and choose the wine. Don't worry, it's not as complicated as you think. The first thing you need to decide is how casual or formal the shower will be.

Food and wine pairing and setting up for the party is a snap with a little help from your friends. Below are some helpful and easy hints to make your theme party planning easy.

Menu Planning

The menu can be a significant portion of your budget. However, you can keep your expenses to a minimum by breaking down the menu and delegate a different item to each of your friends or guests who are willing to help. There are always a few who are willing to pitch in for a special party.

The other choice would be to have the food catered and brought to you. This will use up a larger portion of your budget. However, this choice is extremely versatile, as there are many menu choices offered by the caterers.

Wine and Cheese

One of our favorite and simple menu ideas is the ever popular Wine and Cheese. This keeps the menu planning simple; it's easy on the budget, and most important, cheese is the perfect compliment to wine. You can't do better than that.

Place serving dishes of cheese and plain crackers around the room. If you would like to serve a few additional items, you can also set out a crudité platter with dips and light appetizers or finger foods.

The Wine

How Much Wine Do You Need?

For the wine tasting you will need 1 bottle for every 8-10 guests. Pour only 1 ounce, and not more than 2 ounces of wine for each tasting.

The selection of wine for the tasting can be based on the bridal couple's preferences. Do they prefer white and/or red wine from a specific region, or do they like to taste new and different wines. You can ask each guest to bring a specific bottle of wine based on the couples' preference. Or use the suggestions below:

Wine Suggestions

1) Choose one varietal, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay from 3 different regions (i.e., California, Australia, France, etc.)

2) Choose different varietals -- all reds (Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Merlot) or all whites (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling)

3) Choose California reds vs. Italian reds -- or any two of your favorite regions.
